WEEE Directive The UK government has launched proposals to help improve the environment and cut down on household and industrial waste. The WEEE directive is designed to change the way old electrical equipment is disposed of by recycling more and tightening up treatment of the waste, removing any hazardous materials and preventing it from entering the environment. This should help conserve natural resources and cut down on air and water pollution from the WEEE processing by more than half. The WEEE directive will work in parallel with the Restrictions of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS Directive), which will restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment from 1 July 2007. This should help recycling by minimizing the need for special handling and treatment. As a refurbisher and reseller of EEE we have registered under the appropriate compliance schemes (certificates can be viewed on the left hand margin of this page ) for the remanufacture and distribution of all EEE.We inform all our customers of EEE and their obligations to recycle the items they have purchased under our Customer Information Obligation policy (CIO) after the item or items are no longer of use -more details on this policy can be obtained by emailing dglass@re-tek.co.uk As only a residual amount of the EEE we handle becomes WEEE then we use conventional recycling for the material we cannot refurbish and sell .Therefore metals, plastics, cables and CRTs are are handled with local certified recyclers with the appropriate waste management licenses . In Scotland, SEPA is responsible for the regulation of a wide range of emissions to air, land and water. SEPA ensures that a maximum it complies with all relevant environmental legislation and, where appropriate, exceeds minimum required performance. Currently Re-Tek hold the appropriate Compliance Certification ,these certificates can be viewed in the left hand column and demonstrates our intent to register all EEE put back onto the market place through refurbishment or resale. As we deal with Used EEE and some of this material may fail and have to be recycled then we carry a waste carriers license ,this enables us to ship residual WEEE to the appropriate recyclers. This has been integrated in our our environmental program qualifying for ISO14001:2004. Our waste carriers certificate can also be viewed on the left hand column ,our registration number is SWE/019416/CB. Any further clarification on our certification then please email inquiries@retekcorp.com
